Robert Smits, a 34-year-old traveler from Kapellen in Belgium, saw the intimidating reptile while swimming in the mangroves of Jardines de la Reina, Cuba. He believed it would make for the perfect photo opportunity and determinedly engaged with his swimming buddy. The swimming buddy appeared to play along and even flashed a toothy grin.

The crocodile can be seen violently rushing out of the water in another image, while other photos reveal its infamously razor-sharp teeth up close in others. Mr. Smits said he was a little anxious when questioned about the occasion. The crocodile was a massive, hulking animal that resembled a violent, prehistoric beast. Nonetheless, the crocodile didn’t appear to be aggressive or in a relaxed mood.

Mr. Smits believed taking calculated risks to acquire the desired photographs without harming, moving, or altering the animal was alright. He claimed that his top priority was to honor the cunning predator and picture nature as it was. He did not want to upset the creatures and would stop snapping pictures and leave the crocodile alone if doing so might endanger it in any way.

Photographing animals, even your neighborhood dog, can be dangerous because you never know how the animal may respond to your presence. However, it looks like the crocodile is smiling in some pictures! The display of muscles and teeth may be a sign of dominance, or the crocodile may be perplexed about why people enter the water with them.
