Condor Airlines Boeing 757 Makes Emergency Landing in Italy After Engine Malfunction
|A Condor Airlines Boeing 757 made an emergency landing at Brindisi Airport in southern Italy on Saturday evening after experiencing an engine malfunction that produced visible flames during flight.

Flight DE 3665, carrying 273 passengers and eight crew members, departed from Corfu, Greece, bound for Düsseldorf, Germany. The aircraft experienced what the airline described as a turbine airflow disruption at approximately 36,000 feet altitude.
Passengers reported seeing flames from the aircraft’s right engine beginning around 8 p.m. local time. The flight landed safely at Brindisi Airport at 8:15 p.m., approximately 40 minutes after takeoff, according to FlightRadar24 data.

A Condor Airlines spokesperson told The Post that the malfunction was caused by a chemical reaction within the engine’s combustion chamber. The airline stated that a parameter indication outside normal range, caused by a disturbance in air flow supply to the engine, triggered the precautionary diversion to Brindisi.

“A passenger told the German newspaper Bild that the cabin lights briefly went out and they realized the plane was no longer gaining height. Another passenger said they sent ‘goodbye messages’ during the incident, calling it a ‘terrifying experience.’”
Unverified social media videos appeared to show flames intermittently flashing from the aircraft’s right engine. Audio from one video captured loud booming sounds during the malfunction.
Following the emergency landing, passengers and crew were accommodated either at local hotels or at the airport overnight. The airline acknowledged that limited hotel capacity in Brindisi prevented all passengers from receiving hotel accommodations. Additional vouchers, blankets, and extended shop hours were provided at the airport for those who remained there.

A replacement Condor aircraft was dispatched to transport all passengers to Düsseldorf on August 17. The airline stated that passengers who arranged alternative accommodation could submit expenses for reimbursement.
Condor Airlines confirmed that everyone on board was safe and all passengers left the plane without any issues. The aircraft is now being checked by technicians.

“We are sorry for the inconvenience, but protecting the safety of our passengers and staff always comes first,” the airline said.
