Determined to exchange vows before Royce went overseas to fight, they embarked on their marital journey without the traditional elements.

As their 77th wedding anniversary approached, Frankie and Royce found themselves under the care of a compassionate hospice nurse from St. Croix Hospice. The nurse inquired about their wedding photographs on this momentous day, only to discover that none existed. Then, the hospice staff, touched by their story, decided to recreate their wedding day.

With meticulous attention to detail, the hospice staff orchestrated a plan to recreate Frankie and Royce’s long-lost wedding day. Frankie was adorned in a vintage 1940s wedding gown, reminiscent of the era when they first said their vows. Royce, dressed in his Air Force uniform, proudly wore the same attire he had on their wedding day.

As Frankie looked at herself in the mirror, wearing the wedding gown, she couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed by the moment’s significance. Her daughter, Sue, was there to witness this emotional scene. Sue assured her mother that she was beautiful, glasses and all, as she had been on that special day many decades ago.
The recreated wedding occurred in the backyard, where Royce awaited his bride. With a handkerchief covering his eyes for the “first look,” he anticipated the joy of seeing his beloved once again.
