“Finally Beautiful”: Japanese Model Changes with 20+ Plastic Surgeries
“It was the only way I could survive,” shared Airi Hirase, a Japanese influencer who has undergone over 20 plastic surgeries to rid herself of the emotional scarring during her childhood because of the relentless abuse at the hands of her mother and bullying at the hands of her peers.
Thinking she was unattractive and looked like her father, who abandoned the family, she spent about 24 million yen ($170,000) to “finally be beautiful.” It’s been one journey that has left her completely unrecognizable. Her first procedure, which started when she was 19 years old, kick-started this journey, which she recently showed in before and after pictures. Surgeries have sculpted her face into doll-like features.
She worked with her surgeon, Dr. Sagara, to document and reveal her transformation. Though many who undergo several surgeries have disastrous results, Hirase’s case was particularly successful, allowing her to begin a career as a model.
Extreme Transformation
Sharing her journey of plastic surgery, Hirase briefly sent shockwaves across social media with her extreme before-and-after photos. Indeed, more than 20 procedures costing 24 million yen gave her a whole new look. Definitely drawing a lot of notice are her bigger eyes, a nosed slimmed down, reshaped jaw line, chin implants, restructured eyebrows, and even skin tone much lighter. Her dramatic transformation that started in 2019 turned fully apparent in 2024.
“She’s cute! I really respect how much effort she put in,” one of her fans posted on Instagram.
Recent photos taken for her social media show she also got big breast implants, sending her onto the pages of adult magazines such as Weekly Playboy, which described her as a “realistic sex doll” and dubbed her “24 million yen proof” that it doesn’t matter who you are-you can become beautiful if you have enough money.
Criticism Doesn’t Weaken Her Spirit
While there’s a certain amount of criticism that she’s taken a radical route with her body and her current modeling assignment, a lifetime of bullying has taught Hirase to shrug off negativity. She says she’s proud of finally feeling beautiful and achieving her dream, even if others may not approve.
Coming from a lowly background, Hirase worked physical, low-paying jobs to fund her surgeries.
A Long Road to Transformation
For Hirase, this desire to look different began when she was 15 and overcome traumatic experiences. Starting from the age of 16, however, she decided not to indulge in deleterious ways of coping but rather started working part-time jobs and saving up as much money as possible for future surgeries. She had worked different jobs, from being a security guard and store clerk to even moving assistant, carrying heavy furniture. In eight years she managed to save 10 million yen ($70,000), enough for the first procedures in the radical transformation that was to come across her life.
Childhood Trauma and Its Impact
She considers low self-esteem and a desire for surgery to be the result of the abuse she got as a child. Criticism from her mother, comparisons to her absent father raised the fear in Hirase that she was unlovable. “If my mother hadn’t abused me, I wouldn’t have resorted to cosmetic surgery,” she said frankly.
Classmates were not very friendly either; they tease her that she “looked like a man.” All this continuous harassment drove her to break mirrors and once attempt suicide. She also mentioned wanting children someday and was determined to be a better mother than hers had been. She is ready to give her children that love and care she never got.
Fans Praise Her Resilience
Hirase’s followers have praised her for the resilience and hard work she put into saving up for her surgeries. “This is inspiring. That is truly showing one that with hard work, one can do anything,” said one. Another commented, “You have become so beautiful. The resolve is inspiring.”
While many commenters are supportive, others quickly judged her for taking the surgical route. “True effort is self-improvement, not wasting money on plastic surgery,” one user wrote. Another called it “cheating,” implying surgery isn’t in the same league as more organic solutions, like using makeup or dieting.
The responses prove to be polarized, with many fans continuing to praise Hirase for her guts in pursuing happiness, regardless of everyone’s opinion.
