Japanese theme park Nara Dreamland, which is now deserted

Nara Dreamland, a theme park near Nara, Japan, emerged in 1961 as an ambitious endeavor inspired by California’s Disneyland. The park’s creators sought to recreate the enchanting ambiance of Disneyland, replicating iconic landmarks such as the Train Depot, Main Street, U.S.A., and the beloved Sleeping Beauty Castle. Additionally, the park introduced its mascots, two children adorned as bear-skinned guards, affectionately named Ran-chan and Dori-chan.

Despite its promising inception, Nara Dreamland experienced a dismal fate. Unable to attract many visitors, the park met its unfortunate demise on August 31, 2006, when its gates closed permanently. Subsequently, Nara Dreamland transformed into an eerie ghost town frozen in time. Astonishingly, to this day, every element within the park, including rides and restaurants, remains intact, perpetuating an atmosphere that entices numerous urban explorers.

Renowned photographer Romain Veillon specializes in capturing the captivating essence of abandoned structures and landmarks across the globe.
