Jen and Ben Relationship Headed to Divorce Court: Crucial Detail Delays $68M Mansion Negotiations
|In big breaking news for anyone experiencing the same time waves as TMZ: Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from Ben Affleck in a move that will prove to be crucially telling as far as such matters go. The crucial development she actually filed in what’s going to have to at least be considered a symbolic kind of time.
The legal documents were submitted on Tuesday in L.A. County Superior Court by a non-lawyer, who is representing herself. According to the papers, the date of separation is listed as April 26, 2024. The couple informed us today, August 20, that this date holds particular significance. They were married on July 16, 2022, in Las Vegas.
Today is the second anniversary of their grand wedding ceremony held in Georgia. Filing today is not coincidental.
And here’s the shocker. Jennifer’s documents don’t mention a prenup. Sources connected with the couple tell TMZ one does not exist. So that means all the income and property acquired during their almost 2-year marriage is assumed to be community property.
For example, in that time, Ben starred in “Air,” “Hypnotic,” went onto produce “The Instigators” and has just wrapped “The Accountant 2,” and Jennifer has released “Shotgun Wedding”, “The Mother”, ‘This Is Me. Now,’ and”Atlas.”
This is the fourth time Jennifer has set for a marriage, and only the second time for Ben; hence, it seems surprising that they did not have a prenuptial agreement. This made them convinced their marriage would definitely last forever, but apparently, things always don’t turn out as they seem to at first.
According to the paperwork, Jennifer has waived spousal support and has asked the judge to refuse to award Ben support. Furthermore, having no children together makes it easier, as there is no custody to fight over.
One last twist: You would assume that financial arrangements had all been ironed out before she filed, but we’re told that is not the case. TMZ has previously reported that the couple listed their marital home in Beverly Hills. Ben had recently put down money on a home in Brentwood. And Jennifer has been looking around for a new house:.
As we’ve reported, they’ve been negotiating a financial settlement for months. But in recent weeks, talks have become testier. They’ve become so tense now that several of the parties can’t be in the room together.
So why file now, in the middle of these alleged money disputes? Now, it actually doesn’t make a legal difference in who files first in a no-fault state, but sometimes this can actually become public relations posturing.
