Jennifer Aniston was pictured fully doused in what looked like black oil as she filmed for the fourth season of the Apple TV+ hot series “The Morning Show” in Manhattan on July 28, 2024. The incident was part of a scene for the upcoming first episode of the new season, entitled “My Roman Empire.”

In it, the host of a fictional morning news program, played by Aniston, is reporting live on a social movement when she is suddenly doused with dark liquid from a paint bucket. The dramatic moment unfolds amidst a crowd of protesters, many of whom are also splattered in the process.

“The Morning Show,” premiering November 2019 on Apple TV+, certainly is promoted to be the biggest series the service will have premiered. It features Aniston as she navigates being the co-anchor of the nation’s No. 1 morning news show after her on-air partner is fired amid allegations of sexual misconduct.

According to Aniston, the show is trying to portray the major happenings in American society today, including the pandemic and the #MeToo movement, but it does it with satire. The filming for the fourth season began in early July 2024.

According to the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the critical reception for “The Morning Show” has been mostly mixed, with the overall approval rating coming in at 66%. Things have improved and reached as high as 72% in the more recent seasons based on 78 reviews.

While the critics had mixed opinions, its viewership was enormous. Apple TV+ announced that at the end of 2023, it was the platform’s biggest show, getting an average viewership five times bigger than other original content on the platform.

The most startling pictures that have been described as of Aniston smeared with a black liquid really sent some netizens off their heads for a moment, believing them to be a real-life incident. However, many saw through it instantly and accepted it as part of the show’s production, instigating debates about the very nature of television publicity stunts.
