Back in 1945, in a quiet Colorado town, a farmer’s wife named Mrs. Olson was just preparing dinner. She did what people did back then—took a rooster to the chopping block. But this wasn’t just any chicken…
Mike got his head chopped off—and kept walking.

No joke! Mike didn’t just survive the axe—he kept living a pretty normal chicken life. He could balance, walk, and even attempt to peck (with no head!).

How Did This Happen?

Turns out, the axe barely missed Mike’s brain stem and clipped only one ear. The part that controls movement stayed intact. So Mike was headless—but not helpless.

And the Olsons? Instead of cooking him, they started caring for him. Feeding him drop by drop and bringing him along for the ride.

From Farm to Fame

Mike became a traveling star, hitting sideshow circuits and making appearances all across the U.S. People actually paid to witness the unbelievable chicken that simply wouldn’t die.

He lived 18 months without a head before sadly passing away in 1946 while on tour. But his legend still lives on.
