Trump Orders Flags at Half-Staff to Honor Minneapolis School Shooting Victims
|President Donald Trump has ordered U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff to honor the victims of Wednesday’s shooting at a Catholic school in Minneapolis.
In a proclamation issued Wednesday, Trump directed that flags be lowered on all public buildings, military posts, naval stations, and government vessels across the United States and its territories until sunset on Sunday, August 31, 2025. The flag atop the White House was lowered shortly after the order was released.
Gunfire broke out while students and staff were gathered for morning Mass at Annunciation Catholic School. According to the Associated Press, two children, ages 8 and 10, were killed when a gunman opened fire through classroom windows. Seventeen others were injured, including 14 children.
Police said the students were attending Mass during the first week of the school year when the shooter fired dozens of rounds before taking his own life.
