Trump thanks Hostages and Missing Families Forum for Nobel Peace Prize appeal
|President Donald Trump sent a letter to the Hostages and Missing Families Forum on the second anniversary of the Oct. 7 attacks, thanking the group for appealing to the Norwegian Nobel Committee on his behalf.

After the horrors of October 7, 2023—families torn apart, children separated from their parents, and innocent people murdered and assaulted—Trump said he has been unwavering in two goals: bringing every hostage home and dismantling Hamas so such atrocities never happen again. He said those images are permanently etched into our minds and vowed they will not be forgotten. He also noted that his administration has been deeply moved by families who, despite two years of anguish and uncertainty, have persisted in sharing their loved ones’ stories and pressing for their return.
On Monday, the Hostages and Missing Families Forum sent a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, saying that after two years of suffering, they believe Trump’s actions have led to a pivotal moment. The group highlighted the number of hostages freed since his inauguration—reunions for some families and, for others, the chance to lay relatives to rest with dignity. Their letter praised Trump’s resolve to pursue peace, saying he brought hope from the outset and expressing confidence that he will keep working until every hostage is home, the war ends, and stability returns to the Middle East. The Forum added that no leader or organization has done more for global peace in the past year, arguing that while many talk about peace, Trump has produced concrete results that have saved countless lives.
It remains unclear whether Trump will receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
Over the weekend, Trump urged negotiators involved in indirect talks to “move fast,” signaled he saw Hamas’ response as positive, and called on Israel to “immediately stop the bombing of Gaza.”
Secretary of State Marco Rubio described Trump’s deal as “a historic opportunity to close this dark chapter, and to build a foundation for lasting peace and security for all.”
On Tuesday, chief negotiators from Israel and Hamas met in Egypt as discussions on Trump’s peace plan continued. An Egyptian official with knowledge of the talks told The Associated Press that Hamas and Israel agreed on most first-phase terms, including the release of hostages and the establishment of a cease-fire.
