The White House criticized New Jersey Democratic Representative LaMonica McIver on Monday after she characterized President Trump’s “Liberation Day” terminology as coded language for “white power.”

McIver made the remarks during an interview on the “Defending Democracy with Marc Elias” podcast last week, where she discussed Trump’s law enforcement initiatives in Washington, D.C. The president has taken control of the District of Columbia’s police department and deployed federal law enforcement and National Guard troops in the nation’s capital.

In a podcast interview, McIver said Trump’s description of the initiative as “Liberation Day” was a coded reference to “white power.” She called the remarks racist and argued that his main targets were cities governed by Black mayors.

The representative expressed concerns that Trump’s crime enforcement efforts could escalate tensions. “I think there’s an ultimate agenda of this administration to do these types of things,” McIver said, referring to the federal deployment in D.C. She argued the approach could “start a civil war” if implemented in other Democrat-run cities.

McIver also criticized Trump’s stance on sanctuary cities, stating his “number one targets are sanctuary cities that, you know, support immigration.” She characterized the administration’s policies as demonstrating “how much of a bigot he is.”

White House spokesman Harrison Fields responded to McIver’s comments, calling her “an unserious person whose comments are nothing more than a political stunt.” Fields referenced federal charges filed against McIver in June related to an incident at a Newark ICE facility.

“LaMonica McIver, whose claim to fame was assaulting federal agents, is an unserious person whose comments are nothing more than a political stunt, much like her attempted catfight in front of an ICE facility,” Fields told The Post. “Congress would be better off if she left, and the people of New Jersey would benefit greatly if she pursued her apparent passion for street fighting.”

McIver faces three federal counts of assaulting, resisting, impeding and interfering with federal officials in connection with the June incident outside the New Jersey detention center. She has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

McIver’s office did not respond to requests for comment.
