20 years after giving her kid up for adoption, she learns that her son works at the same hospital
|A Utah man eventually connected with his birth mother via a Facebook message after 20 years of searching. Middle school substitute teacher Benjamin Hulleberg, who only knew his biological mother by her first name, Holly, had always known that he had been adopted by his parents, Angela and Brian Hulleberg.
Benjamin was born to Holly Shearer on Thanksgiving Day when she was a young adolescent, and she gave him up for adoption. When the adoption agency closed in 2014, she looked for him since she had always remembered him. She ultimately tracked him down on social media, and on his birthday last November, she sent him a Facebook message that completely changed his life.

Hulleberg had spent years talking to his parents about his wish to find his birth mother; he had even written letters, signed up with an adoption registry, and taken a DNA test. After such a long wait, he wasted little time requesting her to meet him when Shearer messaged him on Facebook. The following day, they planned to have dinner with both of their families at Red Robin.

They were emotionally overcome when they met and hugged for almost five minutes. After reconnecting for more than three hours, the families of Shearer and Hulleberg learned that both had recently worked at St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, operated by HCA Healthcare. Shearer is a medical assistant at St. Mark’s Heart Center, while Hulleberg volunteers in the neonatal intensive care unit.

Hulleberg was ecstatic that this day had finally arrived because he had been looking forward to it for the previous 20 years of his life. There was a lot to take in. Even though Benjamin had grown up, the reunion of the Shearer and Hulleberg families was sweet and didn’t feel like it had been 20 years.

This reunion tale is a poignant reminder that although adoption can be difficult and trying, it is never too late to bring loved ones back together.
