Francia Raisa Addresses Rumors of Feud with Selena Gomez Following Kidney Donation and Wedding Absence
|Francia Raisa, who donated a kidney to Selena Gomez in 2017, dismissed rumors of a feud between them during a Sept. 25, 2025, interview with reporter Magaly Ortiz.

Francia Raisa, 37, pushed back on reports that she was “angry” or “disgusted” with Selena Gomez for smoking after the transplant. She said the topic was fueled by media chatter and unfounded rumors, noting that she never made such comments. Raisa added that when the story first circulated—suggesting she’d been upset over Gomez smoking—she wasn’t even aware those rumors existed.

Francia Raisa, 37, shut down claims she slammed Selena Gomez for smoking post-transplant, calling it media rumor mill stuff and saying she never made those remarks—she didn’t even know the rumor was out there.

Raisa explained that TMZ had contacted her about the rumors while she was working, and she emphasized, “So, what you’re asking me are rumors. No one knows what’s going on, and neither she nor I are talking about it.” She concluded, “One day, maybe we will address it.”
The kidney transplant took place in 2017 as part of Selena Gomez’s treatment for lupus. At the time, the then-33-year-old singer posted hospital photos on Instagram of herself and Francia Raisa holding hands, thanking Raisa for “the ultimate gift” of donating a kidney and calling her a blessing and a beloved “sis.”

Talk of a falling-out surfaced in November 2022 after Gomez told Rolling Stone that she never felt like she fit in with a celebrity “cool group,” adding that Taylor Swift was essentially her only close friend in the industry—comments that fueled speculation about tension with Raisa.
Raisa reacted by posting and then deleting the word “Interesting” under an Instagram post. In March 2023, Gomez referred to Raisa as her “best friend” during an interview for Apple TV+’s “Dear…,” adding, “I will never, ever, ever be more in debt to a person than Francia” for the donation.

An interview with Raisa’s father, Renán Almendárez Coello, from November 2022 surfaced in May 2023, in which he stated on “Primer Impacto,” “There’s a difference when Selena is drinking. Francia told Selena that she didn’t give her the kidney so she could go out and drink.”
Raisa did not attend Gomez’s wedding to Benny Blanco, also 37, on Sept. 27, 2025, in Santa Barbara, California. In the interview with Ortiz, Raisa expressed, “I was very happy for Gomez to get married. She has a life and she is already a billionaire and I am grateful that I could do that for her,” referring to the transplant.

Attendees at the ceremony included Taylor Swift, 35; Martin Short; Steve Martin; Paul Rudd; Nina Dobrev; and Ed Sheeran. Swift reportedly delivered a speech in which she joked that Gomez would beat her to the altar.
