This captivating piece of land was initially owned by a man named Philip. He gradually acquired approximately 112 acres of vacant land between 1860 and 1889, laying the foundation for a thriving farm. In just one year, Philip constructed the house and the original barn, which would become integral parts of the estate’s legacy.
To build these structures, Lumber was sourced from the Coffee Oak Bush on the adjacent 200 acres. Around 60 acres of oak lumber were extracted by establishing a sawmill. This resourcefulness and industry showcased the dedication and commitment of the early settlers to transforming the land into a prosperous agricultural hub.

On November 29, 1890, the widow Phillip sold the farm to a man named JC, whose family hailed from Dungannon Tyrone County, Ireland. JC returned to his homeland, married Isabella, and returned to Canada, ready to embark on a new chapter of his life. Together, they raised a family of three boys and four girls.
JC was born on May 13, 1839, and sadly passed away on February 17, 1917. Isabella, his beloved wife, was born on June 1, 1844, and her life ended on March 8, 1927. Their dedication and hard work nurtured the farm and its surroundings, leaving an indelible mark on the property’s history.

March 1, 1907, marked a significant moment for the farm as JC’s son, RJ, began renting it from his father. Five years later, on February 16, 1912, RJ took the bold step of purchasing the farm, becoming the proud owner. He and his wife made this place their home, creating lasting memories with their family.
Spring of 1922 brought a unique sense of joy for RJ. After completing the arduous task of seeding the crops, he turned to his wife and expressed, “I have never enjoyed spring seeding as much as this year.” Little did they know that fate had other plans in store for them.

In May 1922, after finishing the evening milking, RJ retired to bed, exhausted from the day’s labor. As time passed, his strength waned, and during the long weekend in May, a specialist arrived by train accompanied by a nurse to examine RJ. The prognosis was grim—he had only two weeks left to live.
The nurse stayed with RJ’s pregnant wife while the specialist explained his condition. Tragically, on May 30, 1922, RJ breathed his last in the main bedroom on the ground floor’s northeast corner. This devastating loss left behind a grieving family—two girls and two boys—to carry on his memory.

On May 22, 1922, RJ Jr., the son of RJ and his widow, was born. RJ’s mother-in-law, Isabella, moved in with the newly widowed wife to provide support during this challenging time. However, fate dealt another blow on November 2, 1929, when RJ’s widow passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a seven-year-old son who would now rely on his siblings for care.
The farm changed hands on March 4, 1930, when it was sold to a man named C. Unfortunately, a devastating fire destroyed the L-shaped barn in 1932. The property was sold to RJ Jr. and his wife M in March 1933. They constructed a new barn and lived on the farm until 1934, when they sold it to RJ Jr.’s cousin, Ted.

The house was initially built with two towers, but one was demolished due to structural issues. The remaining tower is still standing today.
The estate has changed hands several times but has remained abandoned since the 1930s. Currently, a developer is the owner of the land. Who plans to demolish the house and build new homes on the ground?
The abandoned estate is a reminder of a bygone era. It is where families have lived and worked, and children have played. It is also a place where tragedy has struck. The estate is now a symbol of loss and decay, but it also represents the resilience of the human spirit.
