Payne, 31, died after falling from the third-floor balcony of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday, October 16th.

According to the post-mortem report, he received multiple injuries with both internal and external hemorrhaging due to the fall. His body lay in the internal courtyard of the hotel.

A transcript released by the Buenos Aires police department showed that two emergency calls were made by hotel staff about a guest seemingly drugged with both drugs and alcohol.

The police is still investigating the indefinite circumstances surrounding Payne’s death. Officers said his hotel room was in disarray when he was found, and there were a number of items broken inside.

The father of the singer, Geoff Payne, has flown to Argentina in preparation for his son’s repatriation. According to an Associated Press report, the 64-year-old father was outside the Casa Sur Hotel near floral tributes from fans.

As a crowd of mourners built up, Sky correspondent Martha Kelner described how Geoff paused to read notes left by fans in English-out came the glasses-and kissed photos of his son. He also thanked the fans for their support.

Kelner added that although Geoff wasn’t allowed into the very room where his son had stayed-out of an active investigation-he was shown a room with a similar layout. Earlier, he had visited the morgue to confirm his son’s identity and met with prosecutors to arrange Liam’s return to the UK.

In the family’s joint statement, released Thursday, October 17, the family added that “Liam will be forever in our hearts and we will remember him for his kind, funny, and brave soul. We are supporting each other as best we can as a family, and ask for privacy during this incredibly difficult time.”

Cheryl Cole, former partner of Payne and mother of their seven-year-old son, has broken her silence following his passing. In an emotional Instagram post, she promised to protect their son as he navigates the loss of his father.

“As I face this devastating tragedy and cope with my own grief during this unimaginably painful time, I want to remind everyone that we have lost a person,” she wrote.

“Liam was not just a pop star or celebrity. He was a son, brother, uncle, dear friend, and a father to our seven-year-old son, who now has to face the reality of never seeing his dad again.”
