Mike Myers Shocks Fans With Drastic New Look at Rare Public Appearance
The notoriously private Mike Myers made a surprise appearance at the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala in Hollywood this past Saturday, honoring actress Nicole Kidman. But it wasn’t just his presence that turned heads – it was his strikingly different look.
The 60-year-old comedy legend, best known for playing the iconic Austin Powers, sported a shaved gray buzzcut. This is a major departure from his trademark shaggy brown locks that fans are used to seeing. His new salt-and-pepper hair color and closely cropped style gave him an almost unrecognizable appearance on the red carpet.
During the ceremony itself, Myers leaned into the dramatic new vibe when he took the stage wearing a mask reminiscent of the 1999 Kubrick film Eyes Wide Shut, which starred the night’s honoree Nicole Kidman. He then removed the mask for full dramatic effect before launching into a speech celebrating Kidman’s acclaimed career.
It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen Myers in the spotlight. His last major project was lending his voice to the 2022 film Amsterdam from director David O. Russell. Of course, fans are most eager for Myers to reprise his beloved goofball character Austin Powers. In an interview last year, he played coy about whether a fourth installment was actually in the works, saying: “I can neither confirm nor deny the existence or non-existence of such a project, should it exist or not exist.”
While the Canadian actor has been laying relatively low in recent years, he did attend the Kidman tribute solo, without his wife Kelly Tisdale or their three children. But the always dashing Kidman herself made it a true family affair, posing on the red carpet with husband Keith Urban, daughters Sunday and Faith, sister Antonia, and niece Sybella.
