Dog’s ‘Grateful Eyes’ Speak Volumes After Rescue from Hurricane Floodwaters
|Countless acts of bravery and kindness have emerged in the wake of Hurricanes Helene and Milton-foregrounding attempts to rescue both humans and pets alike.
But one touch of thankfulness found its perfect expression in the eyes of a dog being rescued-an overall sentiment among many during these perilous times. Hurricane Milton has badly ravaged Hillsborough County in Florida, which has witnessed widespread flooding throughout the area.
Once the storm had passed, teams of Hillsborough County Fire Rescue began to trudge through the water-swollen streets and neighborhoods, searching for anyone left behind—including animals. Rescued among many others was this dog, carried to safety by HCFR Captain Dusty Mascaro.
Once they made it to dry land, Mascaro took a selfie with the rescued pup, and from what it shows, the look on the dog’s face is pure appreciation. HCFR took to sharing the moment later captioned: “This dog’s eyes say it all.”.
This was not an isolated incident. The HCFR reported, “Since Hurricane Milton, our crews have rescued 104 pets so far, making sure no one—human or animal—is left behind.” Each wet pet transferred to safety meant a life saved by these committed teams.
“We are very grateful for the opportunity to serve and protect each member of our community, no matter what size,” HCFR added.
These heroic efforts of saving people and pets are just a fragment of the entire relief mission after the hurricanes, and the bravery which was involved in each rescue is just incomparable, even if all the stories do not make it to the headlines.
