Renovation of Morris Memorial Hospital for Children with Disabilities in Progress
Work is continuing on the Grand Patrician Resort & Country Club development in Milton, West Virginia. This massive complex was formerly known as the Morris Memorial Hospital for Crippled Children, which was constructed in stages from 1936 to 1941 by the Works Progress Administration specifically for children suffering from polio. Despite its previous use as a hospital, the Grand Patrician Resort & Country Club is now a thriving destination for travellers.
Construction is ongoing at the Grand Patrician Resort & Country Club in Milton, West Virginia. This massive development is located on the former site of the Morris Memorial Hospital for Crippled Children, which was built in several phases from 1936 to 1941 by the Works Progress Administration (WPA). This hospital provided care for children suffering from polio and served nearly 10,000 patients before closing in 1960. After its closure, the site was repurposed as the Morris Memorial Nursing Home until 2009. Now, the Grand Patrician Resort & Country Club is being developed on this site, bringing new life and opportunities to the area. Despite the changes in the use of the site over the years, the Grand Patrician Resort & Country Club will always be connected to its rich history as a place of healing and care for those in need.
In May 2018, the Grand Patrician Resort & Country Club began the process of light demolition and asbestos abatement in preparation for construction. However, construction was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and supply chain issues. Additionally, the project faced further delays while waiting for approval on a new four-lane roadway and interchange with Interstate 64. Despite these challenges, construction finally began in late October, and over $25 million has been spent on the development so far. The Grand Patrician Resort & Country Club is a highly anticipated development, and the team is working diligently to ensure that it meets the high standards of quality and luxury that have been set for it. Despite the setbacks, the project is moving forward, and it is expected to be completed in the near future.
