Think again if you believe that most animals avoid wasps and bees. The courageous Honey Buzzard, a bird with a reputation for venturing where no other animal would, regularly does so. The insects that would make practically everyone else flee oppositely don’t appear to bother these birds. They are interested in them.
The honey buzzard, or Pernis apivorus, is a predatory bird that mainly eats bee and wasp larvae. They frequently have to put themselves in what appear to be hazardous circumstances to get food while besieged by wasps on all sides. Thankfully, they are designed for it. To assist in shielding them from possible stings, honey buzzards have thick, scale-like feathers on some regions of their body.
