Under-dogs is a fascinating photography project by Andrius Burba that captures dogs’ playful and obedient nature from an unusual perspective. Unlike traditional pet portraits, Burba photographs dogs underneath a specially designed glass table, providing a unique and captivating view of our furry friends.

Burba explains that while cats may be cute, dogs are more playful and obedient, allowing more exciting shots. During the photoshoots, some dogs were active on the ground but wholly changed when placed on the glass, standing still like a rock. Others were fearless of standing above the glass, which made for easy and fun shots.

From this project, Burba learned two main things about pets. First, cats see themselves as gods because people feed, love, and give them homes. Second, dogs see humans as gods because we do the same for them.

To capture larger breeds of dogs, Burba designed a custom-made glass table. The success of the Under-dogs project led him to create the Underlook series, where he plans to photograph other animals from below, such as tigers.
