In the Beardsley Zoo, young tiger cubs are showcased to the media
According to a news report, Reka and Zeya, a pair of rare Amur tiger cubs, were unveiled to the media at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo. The cubs are anticipated to be on show at the zoo this spring. They were born on November 25. There are only 500 known Amur tigers in the wild, which are subspecies of Siberian tigers. Reka and Zeya are among the world’s most expensive giant cat cubs since they are female. Gregg Dancho, the zoo director, noted that if the cubs had been born in the wild, they would not have survived and would have perished.
The cubs are currently being cared for by their handlers, Jenny Gordon and Bethany Thatcher, and they are frequently spotted playing together. It would have been brought in a dog as a substitute sibling if just one of them had lived. The cubs are bottle-fed and occasionally take naps, just like newborn humans. They are owned by a zoo group rather than the Beardsley Zoo. As they reach adulthood, the zoo’s staff anticipates that they can produce several healthy litters.
Changbai, the mother, and Petya, the father, remain in the zoo. It had to be decided to take the cubs away because Changbai did not desire to care for them. Around 12:30 am, the first cub appeared, and the final one showed up 11 hours later. Each of the four cubs was born prematurely, and one passed away from “too vigorous” licking. The zoo workers had bottles, formula, and other supplies on hand to care for the cubs in case of this scenario. They weighed less than 1 kilogram at birth, but they’ll be about 160 kilos or 350 pounds when fully grown. Dancho noted that while humans now nurture the cubs, things would be different if their mother reared them.
