Woman Saves Sable from Becoming a Coat, Chooses to Provide a Home as She Isn’t Suited for the Wild

Zhenya stumbled upon an image of a wild sable on the internet and was instantly captivated by the creature’s beauty. This led her to delve into the world of sables, discovering that these animals are renowned for their luxurious fur, considered one of the most expensive in the world, exhibiting various hues from beige to black.
As Zhenya delved deeper into her research, she was disheartened to learn about the increasing demand for sable fur in Russia. Approximately 70 farms in the country were involved in killing sables for their skin, which was then used to produce bedspreads. To her dismay, the sable in the image she had admired was destined to become another victim of this grim industry—a fate she couldn’t accept.
Driven by a newfound commitment to animal rescue, Zhenya resolved to intervene and save the innocent creature from its impending demise. Further investigation revealed that she could purchase the sable directly from the fur farm, and that’s precisely what she did.
Zhenya succeeded in rescuing the sable, named Umora, from certain death. Reflecting on her decision, she expressed, “She would have died there, so I decided to save the little fella.” Right now, Zhenya and her newfound companion live together happily. Yet, forming a bond with Umora was a challenging feat initially. The sable had developed a problematic personality, likely influenced by the traumatic experiences of witnessing brutal deaths on the fur farm. Umora exhibited mixed emotions, from playfulness and cheekiness to being active, intelligent, and mischievous, including a penchant for stealing items.
According to Zhenya, keeping a sable as a pet is challenging. “One has to go through a lot before they can start living with it comfortably,” she shared. Patience and time played crucial roles, as it took years for Umora to adjust to her new environment and fully open up. Zhenya’s persistent efforts eventually paid off; now, she and Umora share a strong and heartwarming bond.
