In a touching episode of loyalty, a horse named Sereno attended the funeral of his beloved owner, Wagner Figueiredo de Lima, who tragically lost his life in a traffic mishap in Brazil. Understanding the profound bond between the two, Lima’s brother, Wando, made the heartfelt decision to bring Sereno to bid his final farewell.
Witnessing the events, Wando told Globo News, “It seemed like Sereno sensed the gravity of the situation and wanted his moment of farewell.”
At the funeral, those present watched with teary eyes as Sereno approached the casket, curiously sniffing it. “He started circling the coffin and then let out a neigh,” Kyioshi Abreu, one of the mourners, shared with The Dodo. “The intensity of the moment was palpable. I was overcome with emotion witnessing it.”
In a poignant moment, Sereno rested his head gently against the coffin. As the procession moved towards the burial site, he displayed signs of sorrow, often whimpering and striking the ground with his hooves, added Lima’s bereaved brother.
Such instances remind us that animals, too, experience grief. Now missing his confidant, Sereno will be cared for by Wando’s family. Wando expressed, “My brother’s world was complete with Sereno. We’ll ensure he continues to receive all the love he deserves.”
