According to Kurt, a good stunt double starts by first being a skilled stunt performer, requiring consistent physical training and acting abilities. They must learn to move and imitate the actors’ mannerisms they double for. Additionally, understanding the actor’s abilities to communicate action and the need for proper padding are vital aspects of their role.

While stunt performing has captivated the imagination of many, few truly understand how it works in practice. When asked how they cast stunt doubles, Kurt explained that they often ask the actor if they have someone they’ve worked with before as a double. Otherwise, they rely on the actors’ physical attributes, ethnicity, gender, and the action sequences in the script to find suitable images. Stunt people also have publications where they can showcase their skills, which helps the recruitment process.

Kurt’s background in extreme sports, including hang gliding, scuba diving, motocross, desert racing, and more, made him well-prepared for stunt work when he stepped onto the set. He effortlessly handles even the most daring stunts like high falls, descender falls, car and motorcycle crashes, and being set ablaze. It’s no wonder he swiftly transitioned into becoming a full-time stuntman.

Today, Kurt coordinates, rigs, and performs stunts in blockbuster movies, from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides to Divergent to Titanic.
