In the ocean’s vastness, nature never fails to amaze us with its magnificent displays. A recent example was captured on camera in Monterey Bay, California, where a colossal humpback whale breached the water’s surface before a small fishing boat. The incredible moment was captured by photographer Douglas Craft and whale watcher Kate Cummings, who were on a whale-watching trip.

Douglas Craft, the photographer, was on the fishing boat when he captured this rare and breathtaking encounter. The whale’s size was immense, and he later remarked, “The whale is giant! If I’d been the fisherman, I’d need some new underwear. The small size of the fishing boat combined with the excellent shot angle made the breaching whale look even more colossal.

Craft went below deck to take the pictures, shooting from a porthole close to the waterline. This unique perspective gives an incredible view of the whale. On the other hand, Kate Cummings captured an unbelievable video of the whale breaching. She explained that the whale had already breached, far away from the fisherman, multiple times. But as whales breach numerous times, they are heading in a particular direction underwater, building momentum for the subsequent breach. Cummings figured the next breach would be around the fisherman because the whale was heading that way. And sure enough, the whale and the boat lined up perfectly, resulting in an incredible moment captured on camera.
Sometimes nature will reveal its genuine beauty to us to remind us how amazing it is. An example is this interaction between a giant humpback whale and a little fishing boat. It was caught on video, giving us a peek at nature’s wonder and breathtaking beauty.
