Unveiled on July 3 via Instagram, the uniforms quickly went viral, with social media users hailing them as the best-looking national outfits for the Games. The ensembles, which will be worn by over 30 Mongolian athletes, showcase intricate embroidery featuring national and Olympic symbols.

Michel&Amazonka, founded in 2015 by sisters Michel, Amazonka, and Munkhjargal Choigaalaa, is known for merging Mongolian cultural motifs with modern silhouettes. This marks their second consecutive Olympics designing for Team Mongolia.

The ceremonial attire incorporates symbolic elements such as the Nine White Banners, the Olympic torch, and representations of the sun and moon. These details are meticulously embroidered with golden thread, reflecting Mongolia’s rich cultural heritage.

Female athletes’ outfits include ceremonial earrings and embroidered bags, while male flag-bearers will don traditional archery hats, belts, and Mongolian boots. Each uniform is said to have taken approximately 20 hours to create.

Fashion critics and social media influencers have lauded the designs. TikTok user Ryan Yip praised the uniforms, stating, “They just won the Olympics before it even started.” Another TikToker, Bee Jamieson, defended the outfits against criticism of their traditional style, arguing that Olympic uniforms should be “over the top.”

Mongolia will send 32 athletes to compete in nine sports at the Paris 2024 Olympics, with judo and freestyle wrestling comprising the largest contingents. The Games are set to take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
