Ursula Goff is a hairdresser from in Kansas who makes amazing nature-inspired hairstyles. We’ve previously highlighted some of Ursula’s designs inspired by famous paintings, and now she’s back with a slew of new ones.

The hairstylist told Bored Panda that she approaches hair the same way she approaches painting: she may be inspired by nearly anything and is continuously thinking about how she’d implement various styles or themes. Ursula has been a hairdresser for 18 years, but it was only approximately 4 years ago that she began producing these distinctive patterns.

For hair extensions and clip-on hair, Ursula’s designs can take anything from 30 minutes to several hours, and up to six hours for natural hair.

The hairdresser claims that her phone contains hundreds of photographs that she saves to use as a reference while dying hair, but that her clients occasionally bring in their own.”We could look for a reference photo before I start working to ensure we’re on the same page,” Ursula explained. If they’re more flexible and trustworthy, I could just work from the idea mentally and find an appropriate image to match it to afterwards. “I produce a lot of ideas on my own,” says one of my customers, “but working with many of my customers challenges me to do things I wouldn’t normally consider or even want to do, and it may push me out of my comfort zone and provide me with entirely new ideas to work with.” As a result, I am continually pushed and occasionally pleasantly surprised. “

Some of the hairdresser’s designs may need many sessions, especially if the clients have specific requests. “So some of the hair colors you see on my social media are transitional.” Other times, people bring their previous color and ask me what their alternatives are right now, so we’ll speak about it and occasionally resolve things that way, “Ursula explains. Or they can come in and say, ‘I don’t care what we do as long as there’s a lot of green.’ Then I’d say green like… a beetle? Then show them the photographs of iridescent green insects I’ve saved on my phone, and we’ll see what we can come up with to attempt to represent that notion through hair color. “

Ursula claims that art runs in her family, and that she grew up with older brothers who taught her a few things. She also claims that she has been drawing constantly since kindergarten and has figured out a lot of things on her own. “I quit out after two quarters of art school as a fashion major.”Then I moved to the University of Texas to study psychology, but I dropped out again,” the hairdresser explained. “I was crawling back home and working as a waitress when I decided on the spur of the moment to enroll in cosmetology school at the local community college since they gave me a full academic scholarship.”

When she was 14 years old, Ursula began teaching private painting lessons and creating commissioned artwork, and she even taught for a year at an elementary school. I feel that doing hair helps to enhance my ideas. But after a time, I missed creating art, so I started doing design/illustration/painting reproductions on hair a few years ago, “the hairdresser explains.” “For health concerns, I now only work part-time at the salon, which has freed up a lot of time for me.” As a result, I’ve been experimenting with different sorts of art and am attempting to sell more of it, despite the fact that I haven’t sold any artwork in over a decade. “
