Leslie, sometimes known as “The Tourist,” is an explorer of the numerous deserted locations in Ontario. She uses Instagram to share pictures of landscapes and abandoned buildings. Leslie once met Lawrence, a lovely soul who altered her life forever, while visiting what she thought was an abandoned home.
Lawrence resides in an overgrown house with an unmaintained driveway, a roof crumbling in, and an interior that would make anyone think the area had been abandoned. He spends much of his time in the living room, where Leslie discovered him, as he has trouble moving around because of his health problems. His left eye has cataracts, and his right eye is absent. Lawrence was lovely and polite to Leslie, despite observing a stranger almost helping themselves to his life. Even better, he consented to her taking his picture, which she will always value.
Leslie realized she had to assist Lawrence however she could after meeting him. Knowing he wasn’t eating correctly, she started paying him regular visits and even made him some meals to take with him. Leslie had the good fortune to learn about Lawrence’s life, problems, and victories during the three hours they spent eating, drinking, and laughing. Leslie considered this one of her most excellent experiences and was eager to have another supper with such a kind person.
Leslie’s visits significantly impacted Lawrence’s life. Thanks to the assistance and kindness of a very giving firm and a few incredible boys with large hearts and strong lower backs, she could remove his outdated appliances, countless bags of trash, and other items from his home. Lawrence incredibly appreciated everyone who helped him during this time, including Leslie. Despite his deteriorating condition, he continued to be in good spirits and was overjoyed to have some space in his house.
It was clear that Lawrence’s time was running out as his health continued to deteriorate. Leslie was a constant friend with him every step of the way. Leslie readily consented when he requested her to attend his funeral and even shared the details with her. Lawrence informed Leslie that the day she arrived was the finest day of his life. Even though Leslie felt self-righteous while writing it, she recognized Lawrence’s emotions. When she first met him, it was the finest day of her life. Lawrence allowed Leslie to show compassion to someone without expecting anything in return. Leslie was happy she could take advantage of the opportunity because it was scarce.
Leslie’s tale of generosity and friendship with Lawrence is a timely reminder that beauty in life can be discovered in the unlikeliest places. Knowing that these elderly individuals are still alive inspires us to reach out to people we may have lost touch or forgotten about. Leslie’s story serves as a reminder to be nice to one another, look out for one another, and support one another no matter the situation.
