Moving abroad may be difficult and expensive, particularly if you want to bring your animal pals. One British couple, however, made the extraordinary decision to fly their two dogs from London to New York aboard a private plane. The pair claimed hiring a private plane was less expensive than booking two cargo flights.

Meet Maddie Young, 31, and Stephen Whitworth, her 32-year-old spouse. The couple wanted to take their two devoted dogs, a one-year-old golden retriever named Olive and a 12-year-old pug named Violet, with them since they had been offered a job opportunity in the United States. They were astounded by the price of airline cargo tickets, which some airlines quoted to be $15,000 – $7.5k per dog – when they started to look into travel possibilities.

The pair spent much time looking before finding a Facebook community that organized private charter flights for pets. They spent $12,000 to fly their two dogs in comfort and style, and they even got a return of $2,000 when the plane was fully booked, and the fees were divided more evenly.

The trip, according to Maddie, was “smooth,” and the dogs even got special onboard treats, including customized toys and dog cookies. The two could utilize the amenities on the ground when the little jet had to refuel in Canada. The airline even provided puppy pads for them to use at 30,000 feet. The couple shared the flight with other pet owners to reduce costs; there were eight dogs and ten people.

In Maddie’s opinion, the private charter flight was $5,000 less expensive than flying a regular aircraft with the dogs, making it a ‘no-brainer.’ Maddie relocated to New York City for Stephen’s job in January 2023, and the couple was eager for their dogs to follow. Given the high cost of cargo flights and the two-year wait for the cruise ship, they needed help finding many alternatives. Being older than Violet, Maddie remarked, it would have been risky to have her in cargo.

It was crucial for Maddie and Stephen as pet owners that they could keep their dogs content and content over the entire trip. The dogs were well-behaved and spent most of their time sleeping, relaxing, and chewing bones. Maddie said she was anxious before the flight because she had never flown privately before, but everything went smoothly.

Overall, Maddie and Stephen’s trip demonstrates that traveling in style and comfort is feasible while taking your pet without spending a fortune. A private charter flight for pets may be an option if you need to fly your furry buddies across country borders.
